Budget Kitchen Makeover Weekend 1 - Decluttering

So as SSG mentioned yesterday, September is the Savvy Kitchen makeover month.

On a budget.

Like $100.

SSG decided to start where she could. Which was with no money.

Easy enough.

First she made a list of EVERYTHING that annoyed her. Which was also easy.

Like this ...

SSG wanted to open her cupboards and be able to FIND things.

So she took everything out, wiped down the shelves, consolidated duplicate spices and tossed items that she brought with her from San Diego ... 5 years ago.

She used containers that she already had and made a list of items that would be helpful to organize what was left.

She doesn't have a pantry, so this cupboard needs to fit spices, baking supplies, staple items and um ... Crystal Light Lemonade. Shhh. It's AWESOME with a couple of slices of fresh lemon squeezed in it.

SSG also wanted her future guests to be able to open cupboards and not be either:

A) Frightened
B) Knocked out by something heavy.

And the piles?

SSG wanted them GONE.

With only the items out that she LOVED ... or used every day. Luckily when it comes to stacked white dishes, both apply.

When SSG thought about what she wanted in her kitchen, she wanted something cozy. Where you could sip a cup of coffee while perusing a favorite cookbook.

She didn't want this ...

But THIS was starting to look more like it ...

Not quite, but definitely getting there.

So in a nutshell.

One weekend.
Two elbows to provide the grease.
Three hours.
Four clean spaces.

Next week ... SSG PAINTS. AND manages to get some on the walls.

Wow! You are on a roll. Can I tell you how happy, happy, happy I am to see inside the inner sanctum that is SSG? I can't wait to see the paint portion of this makeover. I am thinking of doing the same thing. Have you picked out a color?

Oh, I LOVE IT! And the way the little shelf thing fits under the window is perfect! Very crisp and clean and Martha Stewartish. Heh!

Oh thanks ladies!

EM - The bistro sign is from a cute little French shop in San Diego, I've hauled that thing around for YEARS and have always loved it.
Bella Della- The color I painted is called Latte, it's from Restoration Hardware. Though, I don't know that they have it anymore. It's been in my garage for FOUR years! But it went on the walls really well!
Spit & HalfAsstic- THANK YOU! Honestly, the words of encouragement do more for me than anything else!

I thought you all were going to think I lived in an asylum, the walls are so white! But they're not padded ... yet.
