Baking chocolate chip cookies ...
One of my favorite recipes is from The New Basics Cookbook. I've had the cookbook for almost 20 years and it cracks right open to this page. What can SSG say? She's a sucker for tradition.
Old Fashioned Chocolate Chip Cookies
from The New Basics Cookbook
1c + 2T all purpose flour
1/2 t baking soda
pinch of salt
8T (1 stick) of butter at room temperature
6T granulated sugar
6T packed light brown sugar
1/2t vanilla extract
1 large egg
1c chocolate chips
1) Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease baking sheets.
2) Stir the flour, baking soda and salt together in a small bowl.
3) Combine the butter, both sugars and vanilla in a mixing bowl and beat until light. Beat in the egg. Slowly add the flour mixture, beating until smooth. Then stir in the chocolate morsels.
4) Drop the batter by rounded dessert spoonfuls, 3 inches apart, onto the prepared baking sheets. Bake 5 minutes. Remove the baking sheets from the oven, rap them twice on the counter or stove top and return them to the oven. Bake until the cookies are dry on top and golden, about another 4 minutes. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool.
Pour a glass of milk and dunk as you see fit.
Happy Saturday!

Please pass one now! LOL Chocolate chip cookies are my favorite! I just came in from a HUGE city wide yard sale. Found a few GREAT scores (even an awesome something for 10 cents!). I'll be making them over and showing them off. Heading to Hobby Lobby now for spray paint! How's the room coming????
I saw that cookbook in your kitchen pictures - I have it too! Mine cracked open at the tortellini with peas and prosciutto, which I can recommend highly. I'll have to make these the next time I need a cookie fix.
LMAO...not only do I have The New Basics Cook Book, but I also have BOTH The Silver Palate Cook Books!! So there! I love this recipe and to agree with Molly...the Tortellini recipe is the BOMB.
I knew there was a reason why I loved you soooooooooo.
Boy oh boy do those cookies look good!! I love, love, love chocolate chip cookies still warm and gooey from the oven:) I also love the dough!!
Sherri--I haven't even started on the dining room yet! Ahhhh! I think I have a busy day ahead of me tomorrow : )
Molly & Spit thanks for the head's up on the toretellini recipe, don't be surprised if you find that in one of my menu plans soon! And don't you just LOVE that cookbook?! I find myself flipping through it and reading it like a book.
Woody--I wish I lived closer, I'd bring you some cookies, I'm pretty sure they're the magical cure for healing ankles!
I can't even remember the last time I made cookies. I must remedy this.
Our nieces stayed over this weekend. My sis is in Europe for her 40th. Um, jealous! Anyhoo, they wanted to bake cookies so we too had the fresh aroma of freshly baked cookies slowly drifting through the house. There really isn't anything better than that! You're cooking up a storm! Go SSG... xo
